I just thought of something concerning the pool scene- what if- when Jim left the first time he really did intend to leave it at that? But, then, he overheard Sherlock ripping off the semtex and sounding so worried about John’s welfare.
Jim had called John Sherlock’s pet because he thought that’s all John meant to Sherlock. Because, Jim is so alone, and everyone is a pet to him and nothing more, because they can’t be anything more. So when he meets someone like him- he was so happy to share the feeling of loneliness.
But when he realised that even Sherlock can find someone he gets angry.
And that’s why he comes back into the pool area. Because he’s jealous.
